Peat cutting

One hundred years ago peat was still the usual fuel in the villages. In any cases in the villages where farmers and cotters owned parcels of land in the peat moor. Or where the treasury as moor owner allowed the village people to cut peat. Not for free, of course. Peat was mostly cut for own usage but sometimes also sold. In the once moor rich district Segeberg it was part of everyday life to cut peat.
