Today Nahe can be described as an agricultural trading community with declining farming and increasing residential character.
Nahe's development is favoured by its location in Hamburg's vicinity at the traffic band of the B 432 Hamburg – Bad Segeberg – Scharbeutz.

The goals of the state and regional government is to classify Nahe together with the neighbouring community Itzstedt as rural central place and to develop it to a full-value centre of the lowest rank through further trade and residential settlements housing.
A range of companies have settled on a ca 12ha large industrial estate; they contribute greatly to the jobs in the community. Taking care of Nahe's population and that of the neighbouring communities are the capable commercial and trade businesses.
Different shops, a travel agent and several supermarkets as well as a weekly market at the old train station (Fridays from 2pm to 6pm) offer good shopping options, even a tattooist can be found here.
