The 3000-citizens Community

The community Sülfeld consists of three villages; Sülfeld with Petersfelde, Borstel and Tönningstedt. It is the largest community in the Amtsverbund Itzstedt in terms of surface as well as population. In its present area status is the community since 1936 when Tönningstedt was united with the community Sülfeld.
Borstel was already incorporated into the community Sülfeld in the course of the dissolution of the independent estate boroughs in 1927. The community Sülfeld is tightly connected with the history of the borough Borstel. Borstel had the patronage over the Sülfeld church.

Belonging to the borough Borstel were in the past the villages Sülfeld, Seth, Oering, Grabau, Kayhude, Nienwohld, Bargfeld, Elmenhorst, Mönkenbrook, Stegen, Rade and Wulksfelde.

The church�in S�lfeld was first recorded in 1207. Part of the parish were once the villages S�lfeld, Borstel, Itzstedt, Kayhude, Nahe, Oering and Seth as well as from the district Stormarn Grabau, Neritz (up to the Norderbeste), Elmenhorst, M�nkenbrook, Jersbek, Bargfeld, Stegen and Niewohld. Today the parish consists only of the communities S�lfeld and Grabau.

The community S�lfeld is still more or less agriculturally structured and concentrates mainly on settlement activities in the village of S�lfeld.�A rounding off of the housing estate Zuckerhut started here in 1997.

The community S�lfeld has a capable trades and service industry.
An outstanding facility is the Research Centre Borstel, centre for medicine and bio-science. It is located on the area of the former�manor in Borstel. This centre enjoys international importance; a research clinic is affiliated to the centre.

S�lfeld is location of a secondary modern school for the communities S�lfeld and Seth. Affiliated to the school is a modern large field sports and multipurpose hall. Next door a kindergarten was opened in 1998 the responsibility liss with the church community S�lfeld.
At the village border (An der Wildkoppel) is S�lfeld's extensive and modern�leisure sports facility also for football and tennis. The S�lfeld sports club offers eight divisions�and enriches so the community life greatly. There is also a shooting hall.�
